10 Ideas for Health Care
Wednesday, September 9, 2009

Being new to Roosevelt didn't stop Amherst students Jamie Cohen and Andreas Shepard from getting their hands dirty with some policy work.  After making site visits to local community health centers and learning first-hand about the challenges of accessing quality, affordable health care, Jamie and Andreas co-authored an article that now appears in the Roosevelt Institute Campus Network's national journal, 10 Ideas for Health Care.

Written as a concise legislative brief that a busy policymaker can easily absorb, this idea focuses on patient-centered reimbursement for chronic diseases.  The core idea is straightforward:

Health care reimbursements that follow the patient can help support health care providers who are preventing and controlling chronic diseases.

With chronic diseases making health care costs skyrocket, this idea is central to the debate on national health insurance reform.  To follow the development of this idea and others like it, visit the Roosevelt Health Policy Center.
