Roosevelt Institute Southern Regional Retreat, Fall 2009

November 6-7, the southern schools will hold their regional retreat in Atlanta, GA at Morehouse College and Emory University. Divided into two parts, the first part of the conference will be the Southern Student Empowerment Forum, with programming in coordination with Young People First and Black Youth Vote. The conference will include trainings in political communication, poliicy production, legislation analysis, social media, and organizing.

The second part of the conference will be the Southern Regional Retreat, focused on group development, think impact training, and five policy topics named by the Southern Growth Policy Board as the critical issues disproportionately affecting the south in the coming decades: 

1- Economic Growth and Dispariity for Urban Clusters and Rural Areas

2- Birth to Death Education

3-Energy: Coal Dependency

4-Environment: Adapting a industry-heavy South to new environmental standards

5-Health Care in the South

3:15 pm- 3:30 pm: Break

3:30 pm-4:30 pm: Think Impact Training

4:30 pm-5:30 pm:  Chapter and Policy Training Sessions

5:30 pm-6:30 pm: Conclusion and Wrap-up

6:30 pm— Dinner
