  • On February 7, 2010 at a Tea Party conference, former Alaska Governor and 2008 Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sara Palin, among other things, asked her audience- this is a direct quote- “How’s that hope-y, change-y stuff workin’ out for ya?” At first, to be honest, I laughed out loud when I read it, imaging her goofy, folksy mannerisms and absurdly superficial attempts to sound like a real populist and how positively it must have gone over with her audience of people who have become cynical about any politicians ever speaking about “hope” or “change.” Then I thought a bit further, and it hit me: this is someone who voters could have elected Vice President, using such language- that scares me a lot. Looking to the latest CPAC poll, where she came in third in the straw poll race for president, I’m confused: when did anyone, even in the Republican Party, ever get the idea that a person like her could ever embody the qualities necessary in a possible President of the United States?

  • I know we have all heard about “death panels.” It made national headlines when Sarah Palin started to write about them on her facebook.
