Equality for LGBT advocacy organization, "All Out" Fellowship
All Out is a new international online movement of LGBT people and their
allies. All Out brings people together in every corner of the planet and of
every identity—lesbian, gay, straight, transgender and all that’s between
and beyond—to support the full range of rights and privileges that come with
Our board of directors are among the founders of Avaaz.org, the world’s
largest online movement with more than 5.5 million members operating in 13
languages, and created Australia’s GetUp.org, an internationally-recognized
political phenomenon with more members than all that country’s political
parties put together.
Using the Internet and the creativity and flexibility of online organizing
we will enable our members around the world, even when they speak different languages, to speak in one voice. We will keep them informed about the most pressing issues for LGBT people around the world, and give them ways to act, engage, and mobilize—online and offline—for equality.
All Out is seeking a Fellow to work with senior members of our strategy team
to launch a global movement that challenges the pervasive set of legal and
cultural barriers to full inclusion in society for lesbians, gays, bisexual
and transgender people.
While organizations around the world are doing impressive and invaluable
work – documenting violations of LGBT rights, building the capacity of local
groups to deal with these challenges, and pressuring governments to change
laws and policies – those efforts are too often reactive and rarely at
scale. This new movement will draw on the tools and techniques of online
organizing to amplify existing efforts while addressing the critical gaps
that have limited the global movement for equality. The project is set to
launch in the next few months.
The fellow will work closely with senior members of the strategy team for a
3-6 month period on a full-time or near-full time basis, with
responsibilities including administrative support, project management,
strategy development and relationship building. The ideal candidate is
entrepreneurial, a stickler for detail, passionate and knowledgeable about
LGBT issues around the world and a talented, creative campaign strategist.
Here are some examples of the type of work you may undertake as a Fellow:
- Working with All Out staff to develop business practices and launch the
global movement for LGBT rights
- Project management: Developing and enforcing timelines, monitoring task
lists, coordinating the team to reach key milestones leading up to the
launch of the movement and ongoing campaigns
- Developing cutting-edge thinking on behavioral change,
community-building and social action — and how engaging people online can
help facilitate change
Prospective Fellows are:
- Deeply committed to our mission of building a movement to address this
- Experienced in or excited about a start-up, growth business or dynamic
non-profit operating environment
- Flexible and entrepreneurial and want to work with our
interdisciplinary team to build creative solutions to complex problems
Fellows are eligible for academic credit and will be reimbursed for eligible
expenses. All Out is located in Manhattan and the role is based here. We’re
an equal opportunity employer and welcome applicants from around the world,
and accept applicants on a rolling basis. Fellowships are available
throughout the year.
To apply, please send a brief cover note, explaining your fit for the role
and a CV to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include “Fellow” in the subject line.
