The Idea

Expand the US Navy's hospital ship programs, including USSOUTHCOM's Operation Continuing Promise. By providing the program with a formal place in the budget and increasing the amount of money allocated to it, the hospital ships of the Navy's Military Sealift COmmand can increase the number of voyages and the the duration of each stay in port so as to reach more patients.

Key Facts
  • $250 million = yearly cost of the hospital shit program, less than 1/10th of 1% of the Defense Department's $613 billion budget.
  • 100,049 = number of Latin Americans treated in a single voyage of a single hospital ship.
