A recent graduate of Tulane University in New Orleans, Kirsten’s interest in education policy began her freshman year when she started to volunteer as a reading tutor at a local Recovery School. Recognizing the struggle to re-build a strong education system in post-Katrina New Orleans, Kirsten became active within the school district, enrolled in teacher certification classes, and additionally created a volunteer reading program that was implemented at a New Orleans public school. In her last semester at Tulane, she formed a student board that will continue to work with the New Orleans Recovery School District and local universities to expand university-partnered reading programs across the city.
This summer Kirsten is serving as a Fellow for Summer Advantage USA and researching enrichment curricula opportunities for their scholars. Kirsten is excited to be attending UPenn's Graduate School of Education in the fall to pursue an M.S.Ed. in Education Policy.
